Like all smartphone lines, Windows is continually upgrading and improving its devices. This article will deal specifically with five upcoming Windows phones 8.
Upcoming Windows Phone 8 smartphones
1) HTC Windows Phone 8S
The HTC 8S has a four-inch liquid crystal display (S-LCD) touchscreen. Its normally 4G internal memory can be upgraded eightfold with a microSD card and most of the buttons can easily be accessed because the left side of the keyboard is bare; this same feature makes it easy to use it with one hand.
2) HTC Windows Phone 8X
The HTC Windows 8X—which has been called the company’s “signature” phone—is equipped with back and front cameras as well as a video recorder. Unlike other phones listed here, it unfortunately cannot have its memory expanded via MicroSD support, so the owner has to think carefully about what he stores on the device. An article has appeared in Forbes magazine stating that the designers of the HTC 8X devoted far more attention to the hardware than to the software. The touch screen, for instance, takes up more than half the space.
3) Nokia Lumia 820
The Lumia 820 was released in November 2012, just a month after the similar Lumia 810. has rear and front cameras with greater megapixel resolution than those of the former, as well as wireless charging and more talk time. A MicroSD card can be used to increase its memory storage from 8GB to 32 GB. Shell covers of various colors—red, yellow, white, black, gray, blue and violet—come with the phone. Its best price in India, where it is currently up for unofficial pre-orders, is ₹29,999, or $547.88. Accessories that can be purchased for this smartphone include three wireless charging devices: a Fatboy “pillow;” a charging plate; a Bluetooth headset, all of which come in red, yellow, white, black and blue; and the following:
- charging stand (black and white only)
- JBL PowerUp wireless charging speaker
- Monster wireless headset
- charging shell (red only)
- JBL Playup portable wireless speaker (black, blue, white, yellow)
These accessories work in ways that no one would have deemed possible a few years ago. With the pillow, for instance, all you have to do is place the phone on it and voilà—its power will come back!
4) Nokia Lumia 920
The Nokia Lumia 920 came out just four months ago. The most attractive feature of this phone is its PureView 8.7 MP camera capable of taking photographs under any conditions no matter what the lighting—at least that is what the phone’s designers claim. Video calls can also be made with the 1.3 MP camera in the front. The Nokia Lumia 920 has another convenient capacity—wireless charging, in other words no outlet need be available. Similarly wireless is the transferal of songs to speakers provided they have NFC capacity. Its price currently exceeds that of the Samsung Galaxy S3.
5) Samsung Ativ S
The Samsung Ativ S, the first Windows smartphone to be released, has more screen size—a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED HD touchscreen—than any other. It too has cameras on both sides and its memory can be increased via MicroSD to 64 GB.
