White is becoming the new black for many smartphones, with most manufacturers putting out new white versions of their handsets. From Massive Dynamics’ all white TeliPad, to white versions of the iPhone 5 and the Samsung Galaxy SIII, and special editions of the HTC One X, the Motorola RAZR i, and the new Blackberry Z10, white is developing into an increasingly popular choice for smartphone users. What, then, are some of the top white smartphones currently available, or expected to be released in 2013?
1 – HTC One X
The white version of this HTC phone comes with a quad core processor, a low light camera with HD video, and Beats Audio. The handset itself remains very durable from black versions, with a 4.7 inch Gorilla Green screen made from curved glass with a piano gloss and a camera ring. The white version of the phone similarly comes with 1800mAH batteries, as well as a rapid shot camera. The HTC One X is powered by a 1.5 GHz quad core processor, and comes with Android as its OS.
2 – Samsung Galaxy SIII
The marble white edition of the Samsung Galaxy SIII has proven popular since its release, and provides the same functionality as the current version of the phone. The SIII comes with a 4.7 inch Super AMOLED HD screen, capable of delivering 120 x 720 pixel displays. However, the launch of the white version of the SIII was affected by a manufacturing problem for Samsung last year, whereby 600,000 phones had to be returned for problems with their back covers.
3 – iPhone 5
A white version of the iPhone 5 was made available last year as an alternative to the standard black design of the Apple smartphone. White and silver, and black and slate variants, were also made to highlight the different backplates of the phone. The white version of the iPhone 5 is also reportedly shinier and more durable than the black version. Apple previously released their 3G phone in 2008 with a white version.
4 – Motorola RAZR i
Released on December 22nd, the Motorola RAZR i white model was promoted as a special edition tied into Christmas and the winter months. Motorola have also made versions of their Droid RAZR M available in white. The RAZR i has a 4.3 inch edge to edge screen, making it ideal for playing games, and for watching videos. The phone is also one of the more affordable of the new high end smartphones released last year, with contracts under £20 available.
5 – BlackBerry Z10
The new version of the BlackBerry is believed to be using a white colour scheme as one of its varians, which will come as part of a red holster. The new Z10 will have a 4.3 inch screen, a resolution of 1280 x 768, and a DPI of 355. After a difficult few years, BlackBerry’s makers Research in Motion will be hoping that the Z10, which will ship with a dual core 1.5 GHz TI OMAP 4470 processor, will be able to reinstate their market share.
